Phone off? Hugh Jackman stops Broadway show for ringing

Wednesday, September 30th, 2009

Theatergoers won’t forget to turn their cell phones off again, after Australian actor Hugh Jackman stopped a Broadway show to ask one audience member to stop a phone from ringing.

“You want to get that?” Jackman said in character, after the ringing interrupted a tense moment in a preview performance of “A Steady Rain” last week. The show officially opens on Tuesday with Daniel Craig starring opposite Jackman.

“Grab your phone, it doesn’t matter,” said Jackman as the ringing continues.

“Come on, just turn it off … we can wait. Just get the phone,” Jackman continues to applause from the audience. (more…)

Hugh Jackman on Living Green and more

Thursday, September 24th, 2009

In celebration of Climate Week, kicking off in New York today, Vulture hero Hugh Jackman took time away from his grueling rehearsal schedule for Broadway’s A Steady Rain to speak at a U.N. press conference on green living: “To be fair, as an actor, this is not something I’m very accustomed to, and probably about twelve months ago this kind of event would have maybe overwhelmed me a bit,” he told reporters. “But something happened to me just under twelve months ago that put things into perspective — and that was being named the Sexiest Man Alive.” We spoke with him after his speech about both Neil Patrick Harris’s opening number last night and his Steady Rain co-star, Daniel Craig.

Action man Hugh Jackman runs around after his daughter

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Hollywood star Hugh Jackman was in action man mode yesterday as he ran around the streets of New York in pursuit of his daughter Ava.

The four-year-old set a cracking pace on her pink scooter while the 40-year-old X-Men star, who was dressed in a sharp suit and sunglasses, did his best to keep up.

Hugh’s wife Deborra-lee Furness also joined the pair as they headed for ice cream in the West Village, but the couple’s son Oscar, nine, sat the trip out.

The Australian couple, who adopted both of their children, are considered a rarity in Hollywood having been happily married for 14 years.
